Liposuction, famously known as Lipo, is a cosmetic surgery that uses suction to remove excess fat from specific areas of your body. There are various types of Liposuction you need to know, as well as their advantages and disadvantages, so you can choose the best kind of Lipo procedure to get your desired body shape.
Tumescent Liposuction
The most common type of Lipo procedure is fluid injection or Tumescent Liposuction. This procedure involves injecting the fluid into the areas that you opt for the procedure. The medication fluid contains a mixture of local anaesthetic (lidocaine), a drug that contracts the blood vessels (epinephrine), and an intravenous (IV) salt solution. Each has its functions for the process to be done; however, IV is the one that helps to remove the fat easier, whilst lidocaine is the one that allows numbing for the surgery area, and epinephrine helps to reduce the loss of blood during the process.
The advantage of this type of procedure is that it is less pricey than the other. But, most importantly, due to the mixture of the substances used, this procedure is also easier to identify and remove the fat; less bleeding, swelling and bruising.
Ultrasound-assisted Liposuction (UAL)
Ultrasound-assisted Liposuction is a procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves or ultrasonic vibrations to dissolve the fat and makes them easier to remove using the suction technique. This procedure is often used on harder fat, such as on the male chest, upper back or other areas where traditional Liposuction may be difficult.
One of the advantages of this procedure is that it is quicker to safely remove the tougher fat in a more significant amount with fewer chances of getting a bruise or bleed. But, there is still a possibility of getting burned due to the high-frequency rays produced by the ultrasound. However, most people still opt for this procedure if they particularly want to remove the harder fat.
Laser-assisted Liposuction
Laser-assisted Liposuction is quite similar to Ultrasound-assisted Liposuction, which converts the fat into liquid form before the fat uses laser techniques. Then, the fat that has already turned into the liquid form will be suctioned using a cannula.
Since the lasers are tiny and easier to control, they will break down the fat more efficiently than other procedures. Another advantage of Laser-assisted Liposuction is that it heals quicker, is less likely to get scars and can do it on rare areas such as your face. Lasers also can make your skin look firmer and younger because it has a tightening effect on your skin.
Even though lasers are tiny, they also can create such powerful heat; hence, it is still possible for those who opt for this procedure to get burned, but it is rare.
